Comments on Astronotes

Hi Everyone
I'm back again.  It has been so long since I did this that I have already managed to lose everything once. Lets hope that this one works!
I have just finished reading and posting Astronotes and I must say that Paul is up to his usual form...and I don't feel like letting him get away with it!
http://www.astrolib.com/  this brings you to our site. Just click on Astronotes to read what he says.

First thing that I think he should be pestered for is his comment on "Avengers: Absolute Vision Book I" I am really really bad at punning so one of you people will have to get him for this one. I can't. But it is a reaaaally bad groaaaaner!

The next is neat little commentary but I think you all otta know that Mom was really really ticked when he brought the bottle up again!!
Have fun reading

Remember - go to -  http://www.astrolib.com/   Have a great day!!

FREE COMIC DAY A SUCCESS

Hi Everyone...
It has been a while but I'm back!  Saturday was Free Comic Book day and man were we ever glad to see all you people in the store!  You all seemed to have fun-which is just wonderful.  The guys behind the counter were happy and busy and, best of all for me, you spent money!!
It was great to see so many kids coming in with their folks too.  It shows that reading is far from dead. As long as the young ones still love to flip pages the comic industry will just keep on goin'
We were also interviewed by CTV as was the Cap across the street.
If it works here is the link to the interview:
http://montreal.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20120505/mtl_comics_120505/20120505/?hub=MontrealHome

I think it should work.  Just click on the picture on the right (Miles) to see the whole video.

See you at the store!

BRUNO'S BLOG

Welcome back

This week it came to my attention that one of our customers who really really enjoys his comics has a blog going on Tumblr that I had to check out 'cause I'm nosy. I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed it! If this works, here is a link to it:

http://brunos-geek-reviews.tumblr.com/

If I did not get it to work as a link please cut and paste to a browser.
When you get to his blog, you will need to scroll down a bit to see what he has to say about the new "52 Relaunch". He titled that section "Why I think DC’s New 52 is good for comics" which is really very interesting.

Thanks Bruno for a fun blog.

I AM SO GLAD I LIVE IN CANADA:

A couple of days ago I read an article in ICv2 that made me darned glad to be HERE in Canada. Here is a clip from it:

"Syrian cartoonist Ali Ferzat was attacked and his hands broken as a response to cartoons he drew that were critical of dictator Bashar al-Assad."
I tried to link to the story but Blogger does not seem to want to accept it so here is the gist of the story:

"Syrian cartoonist Ali Ferzat was attacked and his hands broken as a response to cartoons he drew that were critical of dictator Bashar al-Assad, according to the Guardian."

You can criticize our way of life all you want - bottom line is that we sure as heck don't have to worry about this kind of thing up here no matter what or who we criticize.
Thanks for reading.

MY FAVORITES ARE BACK!!

As you all know by now, I am really really thrilled to be reading the books that are being put out by Von Allan. I really enjoy his stuff. Well he has finished the second book of Stargazer and has put out some preview pages with a link to all the different ways you can access them. Here is the link:

http://stargazer.vonallan.com/2011/07/stargazer-previews.html

If you call us or email us at the store we will be glad to order it for you. Copies of the first volume are also still available if you missed that one. What I find frustrating as all get out is the fact that I still have to wait until Diamond ships the book to find out how it ends. Von's preview pages grabbed me again and I don't wanna wait. Wonder if I can sweet talk him into a special advanced copy for me.

Anyways...anything I can say has been said a lot better by him so please click on the link to find out more.

Wonder if he'll ever do a sequel to "The Road To" book.

Good luck and happy reading everyone!!

Von Allan's Latest Book

Hi Everyone
As you know I am really enjoying the work being done by a Canadian writer/Artist Von Allan. Well he has come out with a new book "Stargazer" and I really think you should all buy one.
It is an easy and a pleasant read for ALL ages but the neat thing is too that you can buy it - as a parent - without worrying about violence and/or language yet an adult can find it enjoyable too!

I am copying something that was posted elsewhere by his associate - who does a much better job of letting you know about the book than I ever can. Please keep reading and then order one from us.

["I'll try to keep this short, as I know you're all busy! As some of you already know, Von Allan's second graphic novel, "Stargazer," is in November's Diamond Previews! This new book is Von's first science fiction and fantasy work and it tells the story of three ordinary little girls who find themselves transported from a backyard camping trip to a distant and strange world where they must work together to find a way home. As the Midwest Book Review says in its early and very positive review, Stargazer is "a story of wonder, exploration, determination, and inward as well as outward challenge."
Stargazer was intended to appeal to fans of Bone, Akiko, and Amulet, but the book has been well-received by people ranging in age from preschoolers to grandparents, and just about everyone in between. I believe the overwhelmingly positive reception so far is, in part, due to the book's lively characters and the magic of the otherworldly setting; as one reviewer noted, the book has shades of J.M. Barrie and C.S. Lewis but also works on many levels for many ages, in the same way as Never Land, Narnia, Wonderland, and Oz do..."young readers can easily find aspects to enjoy and so take to heart, and equally, older readers as well can find aspects to take to heart and so enjoy."
(The reviews can be read here: http://stargazer.vonallan.com/2010/05/reviews-for-stargazer.html.)
Now, on to the important stuff! The book's key specs are as follows: Stargazer is the first volume of two and has an item code of NOV101057, an ISBN of 978-0-9781237-2-7, a suggested retail price of $14.95 US/$15.95 CDN, is 122 pages in length, and is black and white throughout. There is a dedicated website for the book at http://stargazer.vonallan.com, .
Cliff Biggers, of Dr. No's, has also done a wonderful feature that is running in Comic Book News -- thank you so much, Cliff!)

In closing, the best praise for this book so far has come from a nine-year-old child, who sent Von a fan letter that said, in part: "this book was amazing. I wish I could keep it and read it again,
again and again".
I hope you'll give it a chance and I hope you love it as much as she did!
Sam"]

I would love it if some of you out there give it a try.
Thanks for reading
